Pool Blaster Max – My Personal Review

For the past four years, I have been using the Aqua Broom. It just recently died and I decided to upgrade to the Pool Blaster Max. I have used it several times and I totally love this simple to use pool vacuum. It cleans my pool so much better than the Aqua Broom. Now, don’t get me wrong, the Aqua Broom is also a great investment, but it had some flaws. For instance, while it would pick up dirt, it also push some of it around. But, with the Pool Blaster Max, I don’t have this problem. It picks up the dirt, pine needles and other debris and so easily.

Just the other day, one of my family members used the Pool Blaster Max for the first time. When I asked, “What did you think of the Pool Blaster Max?”, I received the following reply: “Oh my God! It works great. It actually pick up the dirt and did not push it around like the old pool vacuum. Also, I didn’t have to stop and empty the filter. What a difference. I just loved it.”

It was amazing to hear those words for that was my thoughts of the Pool Blaster Max as well.

06 MayBuilding Driveways

Driveways

With the current trend towards multiple motor car ownership, in a perfect world provision would be made for parking all the cars owned by a household. Ideally, the garage and driveway should not dominate the facade of the home, but since building blocks are becoming smaller and narrower, it’s becoming much harder to accommodate many cars. The rear of the yard is ordinarily inaccessible so the garage and driveway end up occupying 6m of a 10m wide block. There is not much room for anything else except the entry at ground level. You will discover some choices having said that:

Develop a split level property with garages underneath.

Build the garages at 90 degrees to the road so that they are much less obvious. You will need sufficient turning space to be able to do this.

For corner blocks, use side access for the garages.

Lower the level of the driveway and garages so they are visually much less dominant.
When designing a garage it is best to have one end open or to have a significant opening to permit exhaust fumes to escape. Allowing vehicular access to the rear of the block is also good design practice since it allows trailers and boats to be parked out the back. Some new, high density developments make provision for garages to be built at the rear of the block, with access via a widespread laneway. Long narrow blocks with rear access are widespread in America. This layout minimises the price of providing services for example power, sewerage and telephone since shorter lengths of pipe-work and cabling are required to reach any given number of sites.

The driveway gradient is a vital consideration. If it is too steep it’ll be challenging to negotiate and you’ll have to do a hill start every time if you have a manual vehicle. Ideally, you’ll park your automobile on a flat section of the driveway to minimize the potential of an accident. The consequences of an unlocked car parked on a sloping driveway could be disastrous if a child were to get inside to play. (Jacking up a vehicle on a sloping driveway is also a total no-no.)

To reduce driveway steepness you can either bend the driveway to make it longer (the increased length will decrease the slope) or you can excavate or add fill to change the level.

05 MayCape Cod House Plans – Check Out Some New England Simplicity

Are you looking for clean, straight lines and simplicity in your home design? Read this article to learn more about how Cape Code house plans can help you achieve your goal.

* How did Cape Cod house plans develop?

When English settlers began building their homes in New England, back in the 1700′s, they used the half-timbered house models that they knew back in England. These structures evolved into what we know today as Cape Cod house plans. The name of this style was coined by Reverend Timothy Dwight, a president of Yale University, after visiting the Cape.

* What are some of the common features found in Cape Cod house plans?

The overall design principle found in these lovely homes is that they have clean, straight lines and provide for a simple but functional habitat.

More specifically, the roofing is typically steeply angled creating charming gables. The roofs normally have very little overhang. Many of the Cape Cod house plans will include dormers protruding from the roof. This will help increase headspace and usage of the upper floor. Speaking of floors, hardwood is the preferred material and is traditionally used throughout New England. Obviously in the cold New England winters, a stone or tile floor will be unbearable.
These symmetrical houses have one or one-and-a-half stories, and are made from wood, with shingles or wide clapboard being used for the exterior. Typically, Cape Cod house plans call for very little external ornamentation, probably reflecting the Puritan sentiment of the early settlers.

Another interesting feature in older version of the Cape Cod house plans was the construction of a large central chimney connected to fireplaces in each room. This design no doubt kept the house cozy and warm in the notoriously cold New England winters.

* Are homes with Cape Cod house plans affordable?

In the 1930′s these homes were mass produced, as they were simple structures and easy to build. As a result they were quite affordable and home buyers today could probably find many of these homes available on the market for reasonable prices. Young families were one or two children will find them to be the perfect size and the perfect price.

* Can Cape Cod house plans include “green” design?

These homes, with crisp, clean lines, are great for incorporating many “green” building features.

Get started today with your search for perfect Cape Cod house plans.

03 MayBackyard Gas Fire Pit

Ever since ancient man discovered the benefits of fire, the fiery flames from wood, gas and other flammable substances have been a welcome presence in our homes. But there are dangers to fire, too, which can outweigh its benefits especially when used in and around the home’s premises. Fortunately, modern technology has provided homeowners with the choice of a backyard gas fire pit.

Designs Galore

Gas firepits for the patio, decks and other outdoor areas come in hundreds of designs. You will definitely find a patio gas firepit that will suit your design preferences, heating needs and space considerations in the same way as you did with your backyard gas fire pit. Your design choices include but are not limited to the following:

• Size – An outdoors gas firepit can be as small as a pot or as large as a barrel. The amount of fire, warmth and visual effects depend on the size.
• Materials – Of course, the materials used in these gas firepits must be heat and fire-resistant for obvious reasons. Ceramics and bricks are the most popular materials for the container, the logs and other parts of the gas firepit. These materials can be made to look new or weathered depending on the desired effect.
• Details – A backyard gas fire pit can be designed with a minimalist or ornate look, a modern or Victorian appeal, and other design considerations. Whatever the décor in your patio or garden, a gas fire pit can be found to complement it.
• Gas Source – Like its backyard counterpart, a patio gas fire pit can either be connected directly to the main gas line or be connected to a standalone propane cylinder.

As for the features, your choices are also varied. Flame control, automatic shutdown and other safety features are available with these modern appliances harking back to an ancient love for sitting around a fire under the nighttime sky.

Convenient and Safe Features

And of course, the most important benefit of a backyard gas fire pit where most homeowners are concerned is the maximum convenience and safety that it offers. In our society, these two benefits are most appreciated since we cannot be bothered with spending more time and effort than necessary to light a fire in the same way that we want to be protected from the harmful effects of uncontrolled fire.

On one hand, you can just turn on the ignition and voila! A fire comes on to provide illumination, warmth and beauty to the area, be it in the patio or on the yard. No more of the inconveniences associated with traditional fire pits like chopping down wood, putting up with black soot and smoke, and worrying about flying embers, among others.

On the other hand, you can ensure the safety of life, limb and property with these fire pits. Just turn off the ignition, wait for the pit to cool down and then put on its storage cover and you’re done with the safety checks.

Indeed, a patio or a backyard gas fire pit is a great addition to your home. It adds beauty to the area while also providing for warmth and illumination during family gatherings and large parties.

03 MayOutdoor Furniture – Choosing the Right Set

You might think buying outdoor garden furniture is simple but there are certain considerations that have to be attended to before you part with your cash. Don’t buy in haste and repent at leisure. If you want to enjoy your garden to its full potential, you have to get the right garden furniture. So here’s a guide to help you in your quest:

Material

Think about what you want most from the material of your outdoor garden furniture. Are you most concerned about the way it looks or do you want something hardwearing? Are you prepared to put in the effort to maintain the furniture or would you like something that requires the minimum maintenance?

Wooden garden furniture is available in many different styles and is a popular choice but it does usually require regular maintenance and you need to know how to get the best out of it. There are other more durable materials such as metal and plastic although you might be more limited when it comes to style with these. So it’s a case of weighing up the pros and cons and deciding which is right for you.

Space

It seems so obvious and basic but it’s easy to forget that your outdoor garden furniture has to fit in the space you have at your disposal. You can get carried away and end up taking up all the space you have with too much furniture. Do your measurements thoroughly and try to plan exactly where you intend to put the items of furniture. Don’t forget that not only do you need room for your tables and chairs but also space to walk around them and get in and out.

Style

Have a good think about this because it might not be as obvious as it seems. Of course, you will have a style preference but will it be compatible with your garden and your home in general? Think about which style of outdoor garden furniture will go best in your garden. Try to picture it in place. Will it also go with the styles you have throughout your home? You want it to stand out but you don’t want it to appear incongruous. Above all, though, your garden furniture set has to be of a style which is practical for your needs, so keep that uppermost in your mind.

Storage

It’s all very well choosing outdoor garden furniture that looks great and is highly functional in situ, but you have to also consider where it’s going to go when it’s not in use. Do you have plenty of space to store it in, say, your garage, garden shed or conservatory? Would a foldable design help you out with this? If you have to leave it in place, do you also have the budget for suitable garden furniture covers, etc?

Comfort

So your garden furniture looks great and fits your space well – but that’s no good if it’s not comfortable or impractical to use. You might want to invest in some garden furniture cushions and accessories to maximise comfort and practicality.

Shade

Don’t forget you will want respite from the sun on those glorious summer days. So don’t skimp on the parasol – and make sure it fits in well with the furniture you have.

Good luck, and enjoy the fresh air!
